Who We Are

St Peter’s Trust for Kidney Bladder & Prostate Research is a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities, and it funds projects aimed at the translation of advances in the understanding of disease into changes to the way that patients are cared for.

The Trust provides the sort of start-up funds that researchers find it so difficult to obtain from the major grant-giving bodies. They need local charities like St Peter’s Trust to give them the chance to test out their preliminary ideas and set them on their way.

Many patients, and their relatives, friends and colleagues have raised money over the years to enable this vital work to continue. But we need constantly to seek additional financial support through personal or corporate donations, as well as fund-raising events organised by the Trust and other enterprising efforts engaged in by our supporters. If you could help too we would be so grateful.

The projects that the Trust supports are undertaken in the Centre for Urology and Centre for Nephrology at UCL Medical School, London, and its associated hospitals - in particular UCL Hospitals, the Royal Free Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children. We work closely with the teams of doctors, nurses, scientists and technicians that make up the specialist groups investigating particular aspects of urinary tract disease.

The Trust is proud to be helping skilled researchers in an organisation of the calibre of UCL, where they have opportunities for major medical advances through collaboration between world class clinical and scientific departments. In 2008 UCL was rated the best research university in London and third in the UK overall for the amount of its research work which was considered of ‘world leading quality’. (facts and figures)
